Purple pimple like bump, what do I do with it?

I have this slight bump on my face... It looks like it was going to develop into a pimple but I guess I %26quot;stopped%26quot; it from happening? It started to turn purple... I%26#039;ve gotten these before and I always figured it%26#039;s trapped blood. So I end up cutting it open so I can release it... But I don%26#039;t like the scars that follow... Is there any way to avoid scars? And what exactly is it?|||It might be an ingrown hair.
